Even if your family has lived in the United States for many generations, chances are your family tree eventually leads to one or more immigrants who sought their own version of the American Dream. By supporting ILAP, you not only help today’s immigrants, you help our nation to fulfill its promise of “liberty and justice for all.”

ILAP GIVING

Like all nonprofit organizations, ILAP operates on an extremely limited budget. Donations of any size make a very real difference and an immediate impact on our ability to fulfill our mission of helping Maine’s immigrants improve their legal status. We are grateful for your support of Maine’s immigrants and their families.

Here are several ways that you can become a financial partner in ILAP’s work:

• Become an ILAP Partner: $50 per month suggested. Please consider supporting our important mission with an ongoing monthly donation to help provide stability and sustainability for our programs. It’s easy to set-up online through Click & Pledge. Choose your own level of sponsorship (minimum is $10 per month) and help us sustain and increase the direct legal services, education & outreach and advocacy programs we provide on behalf of Maine’s low-income immigrants and their families.

• Contributions by check are always welcome and can be sent to ILAP at P.O. Box 17917, Portland, ME 04112.

• To donate stock, please contact Mark Norton at UBS at 207-774-1008. Mark will provide information about how to complete the transaction.

• ILAP seeks corporate sponsors each year for its annual fundraising event, CeleSoirée: Celebrating Immigration through the Arts. Sponsor levels range from $500 to $5000 with varying degrees of marketing exposure at each level.

• ILAP’s wish-list: Donations of office furniture, computers, and other in-kind services help us keep our administrative costs down and allow us to devote more money towards fulfilling our mission.

Volunteer

ILAP relies heavily on volunteers to help us provide high quality and timely assistance to Maine’s low-income immigrants.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Immigration Clinic. Provide people of different cultures with invaluable assistance by helping clients to complete immigration forms. ILAP trains its Clinic volunteers. Prior immigration experience is not necessary. Second language capacity is always a plus.

• Fundraising. Help organize our annual fundraising event, CeleSoirée: Celebrating Immigration through the Arts, held each year in March. Host a house party or organize a fundraiser at your church, school, or business.

• Office Support. Help enter client information into our database, file forms, and assist with country condition reports.

If you are interested in volunteering at ILAP, please email our Office Manager, Meg Bryan, and tell us the type of volunteer work you would like to do, your availability, and why you would like to volunteer with ILAP.

Pro bono PaneL

Join ILAP's Pro bono Panel.  ILAP currently has 40 lawyers on its Pro bono Panel. After the initial intake process, ILAP’s supervising attorney will put together a brief client case summary before sending out a request to place the case with a panel attorney.

Prior immigration law experience is not necessary. ILAP will provide mentoring and guidance on as an needed basis.

Action Alerts

Get email updates when key legislative issues related to immigrants are being debated at the local and national levels, so that you can let lawmakers know where you stand on these issues. Organize an event at your church, temple, mosque, school, club, group etc., where ILAP can provide information about legislative proposals that affect Maine’s immigrants. Let ILAP help you get informed and involved!
